This is lovely, an honest journey through the forest of not knowing.
My attraction is to the Jewish structure of Emet - twin pillars that support the world. As you’ve mentioned, absolute truth is rare but it feels like Lies and Truth are twin concepts that rely on each other to create structure - without that tension the earth topples.
Dan Ariely’s work on “Why we Lie” is nice because it supports and humanizes something almost uniquely human - lying. Ironically, he was busted for faking results. Everyone lies, even the experts.
Bad lies are deceptive, intentional and coercive. Good lies are told to protect children or to create art or fiction.
The good lie relies on knowing the truth but pretending in something else, the possible. In literature, the audience’s participation is required for the “Willing suspension of disbelief”
Thank you for this weekly gift. Here’s a related piece from a couple years ago - it talks about the twinned concepts of truth / untruth and Shibboleths - also how I got my aboriginal name. Enjoy!
I live with music just there, as a child it was something I always assumed everyone has. Many people do have this, others wait for the radio, or whatever ceremonial, concert, band, car has it. As a child I had internal melodies almost always "on" and met people as I grew who also had it, the music in the mind. When I write now, I hear it in the words if they are there. Your writing is stimulating truth in songs, songs in truth :) - they are there.
thank you Dean, I also noticed this in my 3y old son, he's always singing something, whatever it is. The world would be a better place if we all sang more, like children.
Well, I believe in being a skeptic. Especially of those that think they have figured it all out. From what I see about the human condition is that men have not figured it out. No matter how sophisticated their writing is they haven’t figured it out. So that’s why I’m a skeptic. Believing wholeheartedly in any one thing or any human to me is ridiculous. I believe that sitting in the forest or the desert is where people should learn their lessons from. Nature not humans. I also agree with Dean that music can bring people together. Hi Dean! Humans can lead themselves into total destruction. Being led by someone who thinks they know it all. Or they have figured it out. Beware of these people.
Wait a minute! I just remembered several books written by Amy Stewart that made me skeptical about believing in nature also. Read a couple of them. Well so much for nature having the answers! Hahaha all the horrors of being a skeptic.

Thanks Reuben!
Keep writing. You have a great voice in letters and song.

Purée qu'il est loin le temps où je te provoquais sur Second Life pendant la campagne présidentielle en 2006 - 2007 ;-)
