Amazon S3 down again means no avatars in Twhirl for now

_wikipedia_commons_thumb_9_9d_Pipes.jpg_450px-Pipes.jpg Allen Stern says Amazon S3 is down and that is why Twitter avatars do not work anymore, and therefore do not work in Twhirl either in case you were wondering. I am glad we moved all Seesmic to Servepath from Amazon S3 a few months ago, they have been down only once and very short outage, which is not acceptable given that it is not cheap hosting, but still we are very happy about it so far.

Hosting is a key part of building a service, and I heard many friends telling me to use Amazon S3 which we did at the beginning but then decided to move away. We also have a CDN now, ensuring Seesmic can be reached anywhere in the world at the same speed. Of course these are not cheap, but we want the best service possible as a platform. What do you guys use for hosting? (pic by uberculture)

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.

You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feeds in English, French or my video podcast feed.
