Amazon S3 down again means no avatars in Twhirl for now
Allen Stern says Amazon S3 is down and that is why Twitter avatars do not work anymore, and therefore do not work in Twhirl either in case you were wondering. I am glad we moved all Seesmic to Servepath from Amazon S3 a few months ago, they have been down only once and very short outage, which is not acceptable given that it is not cheap hosting, but still we are very happy about it so far.
Hosting is a key part of building a service, and I heard many friends telling me to use Amazon S3 which we did at the beginning but then decided to move away. We also have a CDN now, ensuring Seesmic can be reached anywhere in the world at the same speed. Of course these are not cheap, but we want the best service possible as a platform. What do you guys use for hosting? (pic by uberculture)
