If you had to choose between Twitter and your blog what would you choose?

I was watching tonight (yes I know I am very geek) why Chris Pirillo would pick Twitter over any other social network if he had to choose. I am not sure about what I would do because it's obvious Twitter lets you stay in touch with the geeks in a permanent way and I love it for this, but so far it does not do a good job at getting you connected to "regular" people while Facebook is reaching 70 million people. If you want the geeks, go for Twitter. If you want to connect with everbody (online) go for Facebook.

Here is another tougher question: if you had to choose between your blog and Twitter, what would you choose?

I love Twitter and I love the value it provides to me, but I would still keep my blog because
-I have total control over it, it's not in the hands of a third party
-I can go much deeper than 140 characters, write long posts
-Its content stays and is archived in a much better way (Google understands the context of a post because it has more content than a sentence or two). Twitter content is more like only about the news, it is difficult to find an old tweet and even with better search there is no point really.

Having said this, Twitter clearly decreased my blogging volume in a big way. It is much easier to be on Twitter and post from anywhere a quick thought than writing a post like this one, even though it is not that thoughtful. Writing a post takes a little thinking (or a lot of thinking) while I feel my tweets are directly out of my brain without filter. Which sometimes definitely creates some fun situations. I remember for example when I tweeted from the men's room at the Von conference in San Jose a few weeks ago (see, I can't find the Tweet!) that I was next to a guy "doing his thing" and having a conference call at the same time, so noisy he disrupted the entire room :) That is an example of a tweet which I had fun to write as I asked my followers if they wanted me to record a Toiletcast, that I would have never put on my blog. I just did, now.

Anyway, coming back to the question, would you give up Twitter over your blog if you had to choose?

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.

You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feeds in English, French or my video podcast feed.
