Pierre Bellanger, head of Skyrock and Skyblogs on social software
Pierre Bellanger, head of Skyrock has built one of the largest social software in the world, Skyblogs, starting by blogs but now morphing into social software and is one of the rare large media organisation (Skyrock is also one of the top radio in France, probably the #1 on the youth) that has succeeded its tranformation. It was a radio with some Internet activity and is becoming now a social software company that happens to have a radio.
Pierre shares with us lessons he learnt on social software: "Many initially considered the Internet as a novel means of broadcasting, rather than an end in itself. It was viewed as a simple extension, an exotic diversification, or even a futuristic department of companies in the press, radio, publishing, music, or movie industries. The Internet's strength, particularly in networking, soon became apparent. At this stage, we may summarise what we have learned thus far." Pierre analyzes the key trends he sees:
-the Internet creates a new resource : its users' collective intelligence
-the Internet has created a new form of distribution : peer-to-peer networks
-the Internet reinforces individual emancipation
-with the Internet the code becomes a medium
-with the Internet advertising becomes demassified
-with the Internet interruptive advertising is replaced by advertising that is integrated or peripheral
-with the Internet anything which is not local is global
Great reading you, Pierre, thanks for sharing.
