Where are the girls ?

There are too few women registered. How should I fix that ?

Make it more relevant to their lives. I was reading an interesting article in Business Week that said business schools are having a hard time finding enough women applicants. Often because women don't see the "moral value" of a business major. So, add something with more of a value base? The relevance of the web to politics... to communication... your call!

That being said, entree gratuite, billet d'avion, and cocktails never hurt. Good luck finding the resources....!

or.... precisely, what about a panel on women and the web? you could create a special discussion group/forum dedicated to that subject alone.

First, it is not much about social topics - which is disappointing as VOX has a reason to be build. It does not really care about issues women care about.

There are not a lot of topics around with real life implication or use, mere on the bubbely and investor side. Not really something to leave the work live for.

Second because you do not accept American Express. I forgot my master card at my mums and hope to get it back this weekend to register. ;)

Nicole, which are the three issues "women care about"? (I´m a man, just curious)

be like a bar on ladies night--make it free for us! or offer a discount. we earn less $ than our male counterparts with the same education. we deserve it

There are too few Scotsman registered. How should I fix it? There are too few amputees registered. How should I fix it? There are too few Lepers registered. How should I fix it?

There are too few registered. How should I fix it? I knwo this debate goes round and round and round, but quite frankly it offends me that a conference with open doors has to work on getting a certain tract of people.

And Laurie, a discount? Yikes I'm so going to bat for a 'gay transvestite in a kilt' discount of thats the case. Or the relevant European Law that bans that sort of discrimination.

My income in Portugal does no allow me to pay travel (plus registry) to go (the same applies for a large sample of population - you can check EU statistics to have an idea of what i'm talking about). Plus, like Laurie said, the same applies regarding lower income for women (even with better education).

I'll have to participate by the distance, like most of the times.

But thanks for asking :-)

interesting thanks for your feedback... many friends (female) told me I should really NOT do a women's panel it would suck, so I am still wondering about the solutions. Cheaper for women ? Hum...

Loic, November 04, 2006 at 20:28

Great question...as a registered attendee + female, 2nd year...I think this issue requires imaginative tactics, not the same old 'differences' discourse.

How about scholarships? My company will sponsor one. Distance participation for persons feeling an expense crunch. Invite some key folks from Blogher ... www.blogher.org...remotely or F2F.

I agree with your female feedback, a women's panel would accomplish the opposite.

Your inclusive approach is truly Net spirit. Women are already a major Net force in purchasing decisions, online info research...getting them to participate in formative sessions such as LesBlogs is a challenge.

There are very few LatinAmerican people registered as well!!! And in this is because of money.

About women .... I've written an article (in spanish, sorry ) about the goal of parity:

http://fisica3.blogspot.com/2006/03/paridad-entre-hombres-y-mujeres-por.html

There are good woman in all the web/internet community, but if the proportion favors the men, the same will be for participants in this kind of events.

Salut Loic,

j'ai posté un commentaire en français concernant la participation réduite de la gente féminine à LesBlogs 3... Ca te mettra p-être sur une piste!

Looking forward to it!

Put women on the panels. Get more women to do keynote speeches.

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.

You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feeds in English, French or my video podcast feed.
