Blog as you speak, not as you would like to write

About.com has a nice entry about 6 time management tips for bloggers. Here is one:

2) Blog the Way You Talk.

When you try to sound clever, intelligent or funny in your blog and it's not really your style, then blogging will feel like a chore. So, forget what you think blogging should be like and just do things your way.

On this blog, I have been applying this all the time, my english is far from being perfect and I write as I talk, at least you know it is me...

Nanopublishing is probably the next opportunity

Nanopublishing soars: Gawker Media continues its growth and WeblogsInc has just announced new hires and a goal of 100 vertical blogs on-line before the end of the year. As always, there are many intiatives in the US, few in Europe, few that are not in English. It is understandable as it is much longer to generate enough revenues for a small team on a French or a German vertical blog, but I am sure the opportunities are very interesting too.

So, when will Europe finally wake up on nanopublishing too ? I have met three VCs in Europe recently and they all complain that there are not enough entrepreneurs with new projects these days.

The influence of blogging in US Elections: can you help me for an interview ?

One of the main business radio asked me if I would accept a live interview on Tuesday morning about how blogs and bloggers influence the US Elections.

I have not been following that subject very closely (I should have, I know) but as I like to take risks, I accepted. The good news is have two days to prepare.

Could you advise me of any good post, article, link, summary that would help me ? Any example of a blogger having had some impact to your knowledge ?

Thank you in advance !

The CEO of Macromedia gets corrected by Russel Beattie and comments his blog

Another surprise this morning on the impact of blogs in the Corporate World when I read Rodrigo's post about Russel Beattie correcting wrong numbers quoted by Robert Burgess, the CEO of Macromedia.

The most interesting part is when Robert arrives on Russel's blog and comments the correction to apologize. Dan is probably right then, we are becoming the media...

Ellen was finally fired yesterday...

OK. I apologize for a misleading title, that Joi took from me (sorry again, Joi !) and apologized for it. We were both seriously corrected. Finally Ellen was really fired.

Managing also a small team, I can't say I would have approved this type of blogging, for obvious reasons, but firing may not be the right solution... Anyway, difficult to say without having all the details from both sides, I just have to wish good luck to Ellen, sorry this all happened.

update: if anybody could translate this article (from Norway ?), I would really like to understand what it says about my post...

update (2): David Carr, lawyer and in the team of the Big Blog Company, comments the story and advises companies to write blogging charters, fast...

As I see there is some blogging about my note on Finnish Sauna, I can't help but give you more. Ross also likes it and his father in law has even invented a special plastic Saunaviht.

Eng Pic Naine Eng Pic Mees

It is very popular in Finland (on TV, yes !) and in Estonia, it is called Saunaviht. It was even fleshboted on the famous Gawker erotic blog.

Learn more about sauna.

A real Sauna in Helsinki

I love Sauna and Marko invited Joi, Heiko and me in Helsinki to experiment a genuine finnish sauna at the Finnish Sauna Society.

The saunas are heated by a classic fire, not electric, and very different to any other Sauna I have experimented before, the wood is very dark, there is few light inside and the feeling of the non electric heat is very good. We have had five saunas and five jumps in the 8 degrees sea (there was a beautiful clear sky and our jump was surrounded by trees). The more you jump and sauna, the less you feel the temperature difference even tough I had never heard my heart that way before. It was a real pleasure to whip Joi (and get whipped too of course) with birch branches.

We stayed some time naked outside with an outside temperature of just a few degrees without even feeling it just before cooking our own sausages.

The whole, amazing experience, took several hours. Now I want to be back in Helsinki again when it is colder for avantouinti. Thanks again, Marko.

Update: Euan and Marc laugh at my bad english :=)

A great article on Six Apart in the WSJ yesterday

We have had a great article yesterday in the Wall Street Journal, that Ollie has scanned for us, this is perfect I will not have to do it (but when will the WSJ finally understand that it has to "be linkable or die" rather than many paid subscribers, long term ?).

3 conferences in one day: too much going on !

I think it is the first time I do three presentations on blogs in the same day at three conferences and three different locations,
-the Knowledge Management Forum in Paris, the yearly event on KM
-the Lisa Forum in Marne la Vallée (about an hour from Paris)
-the Solutions CRM conference, the main event on direct marketing

What a day... Only three presentations to prepare tonight ! What I like about the blogging business is that you cannot get bored. See you tomorrow.

Gmail Adds Atom Feeds

Gmail Adds Atom Feeds (via Micro Persuasion)

Gmail_atom2_2Gmail has added Atom web feeds, a format that's akin to RSS. The feeds include a summary of each new message in your Google email. See screen grabs. In addition, the service rolled out a more robust contact interface that nicely lists all your contacts the related messages that live in your archive as well as the ability to forward your messages to any other email account.

Come si fa un blog: the blog book in Italy

Just refused a 1685 contacts Linked In Connection !

My highest ever, I just refused a LinkedIn invitation from a person with 1685 connections. This is totally pointless as you end up being asked to introduce people you don't know to other people you don't know. I only connect to people I have met at least once in LinkedIn.

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.

You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feeds in English, French or my video podcast feed.
