Movable Kite

loickiteI had one of the best day of my three years of Kite Surfing today, 4 hours non-stop. I finally tried my brand new F-One M3 14 m2 which was perfect with 20 knots today (I am heavy so I always have 2 m2 more than everybody). The vertical power of that new kite is just amazing, I don't know how high I managed to fly but I could count to 10 from take off to landing on the sea and I don't remember having experienced jumps that high, really cool. The speed it provides is excellent as well. I need to practice my back rotations again, it has been a long time since I practiced so the basic stuff and the jumps were fine but when rotations come I could feel how rusty I was...

Next time I am in San Francisco, I take my Kite Surfing gear, I am dreaming about Kite Surfing on the SF Bay...

Give some credit to the photographer too! It's a great shot.

But I'm struck simply by the concept of kite surfing. Why isn't this bigger in the US? (Or do I just need to get out more?)

Hi Gabe, yeah, the photographer is a good friend of mine, Sebastien Godet.

I don't know about Kite Surfing in the US in general but I can tell you in the SF bay there are hundreds of those everywhere, I really need to try there.

You should do a one week holiday in Dominican Republic and practice full time, you come back and know the basics, really fun.

Cool!

I used to do wakeboarding and the Bay Area is also great for that. Lets do that sometime.

Great shot indeed. Where was it taken? I have lived in the Bay Area for years, and kite-boarding for two seasons: there are some fantastic spots around, and with consistent wind (20-25 knots) you won't be disappointed. Of course, this being in the Silicon Valley, we tend to take a well connected approach to things: check out Jack's webcam of San Mateo's Third Avenue spots for near real-time shots of the action. Drop me a note next time you come by, and do pack a kite.

Nice pic, coincidentally I was watching the kitesurfers yesterday with my kids just in front of Tankerton Bay Sailing club, and they seemed to be having a great time.

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.
