Bloggers find way to profit

Good article on SFGate.com pointed by JLR (FR) where I learnt that:

-Daily Kos makes about $3000 a month thanks to blogads, here is the audience of the blog, impressive, especially the yearly growth !
-Instapundit makes $1000 a month and made $4000 the last two months whith 110 000 visits a day

Do you make money with your blog ?

I've amassed a fortune of over six dollars, thanks to the amazon associates program.

I feel dangerous, just imagining all that money....

Just as a calculation, that's $1 CPM average, which for the size of them is actually an ok number.

For a media establishment you need a lot more than that to cover your costs. But the question is whether it will be good to have a really focussed blog or rather content site on a given subject. As soon as you are thinking about it this way it is not a blog anymore, but just a content site and putting that content up is just getting easier and easier.

I think I have to try blogads... hmm... I doubt they will beat google adsense in my case but it might be interesting.

Also see this article in Wired:

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.06/blog.html

It focuses on Nick Denton and his blogging empire:

"The empire, as it were, includes four Web sites and a just-unveiled blog portal that helps people organize their weblog reading. New York City-based Gawker is a chatty morph of Page Six and the old Spy magazine - a must-read for anyone involved in the Gothamite stew of news junkiness, celebrity trash, and bitchy gossip. A gadget-oriented blog called Gizmodo is a daily destination for thousands of propellerheads. Porn-focused Fleshbot mixes irony with onanism. And for those living inside the DC Beltway who know what a modem is, smart-mouthed Wonkette has fast become as entrenched in the capital as agriculture subsidies.

"And now the empire is expanding, with Denton planning to add six blogs this year...."

I am have so far made approximately $10.00 via my Amazon Affiliate but things can only go up! Actually I think the key is to integrate things like ads, Amazon and other affiliate content directly into the subject of your blog. For example I notice that people tend to buy a CD through my site when it is both featured on my Typlist and mentioned in a post. I could probably try and integrate it all together which is the eventual plan. Of course the danger is that you might start to feel compelled to post about things just so you can potentially make money but I am sure it is possible to make money on a good blog as long as the content is worth reading by somebody. Content is always king.

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.

You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feeds in English, French or my video podcast feed.
