European Political blogging & Emergent democracy please help !

I have started a new wiki page (thanks Joi) to try to gather most European experiences on political blogging and emergent democracy as Britt and Jon asked me if I could write as an emergency a european contribution for an O'Reilly book on Emergent Democracy.

There is a high chance I do not meet the date to give back my work but this could serve anyway as a basis to gather information on European political blogging and emergent democracy.

I have had few time to work on it up to now so these are just links for the time being but I will write a summary of some experiences from main politicians such as Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Jean-François Copé and André Santini in France and write my thoughts on European political blogging on the wiki.

If you have some time to add what's happening in your country of Europe, I really appreciate your help !

Thoughts from any of the 10 countries joining the EU in May would also be a great feedback.

You could:
a) contact Dr. John Gotze (http://slashdemocracy.org/gotzespace/) and Stephen Coleman (http://www.oii.ox.ac.uk/people/?rq=faculty) who I think know the most about this stuff in Europe
b) contact the voxpolitics crew, who have been follwing this stuff far longer than most: http://www.voxpolitics.com/
c) look at the 'democracy hacks' in the UK such as: faxyourmp.com, downingstreetsays.com, and the seed fund for other such civil society work: mysociety.org
d) read opendemocracy.net, especially http://www.opendemocracy.net/democracy_and_power/index.jsp
e) look beyond the framework defined by the conversation in the states (grassroots vs big money/media) as it is not appllicable to the european political system and it's ills/benefits. please do start from first principles and from looking at the great work that has been done in europe around e-government and democracy before it was fashionable in the (largely american) 'blogosphere' (what a horrible word)

Just a note to fill you in on the details for the next Adam Smith institute Next Generation reception, being held in just over a week on Tuesday 6 April from 6pm until 8pm. The venue,
as usual, is 23 Great Smith Street, London SW1. Mumm's and canapes will be served.

The 10-minute speaker will be Perry de Havilland, Editor-in-Chief of
Samizdata.net (the most-read political 'blog' in Europe) and partner of the
Big Blog Company. He has a background in commodity broking and investment
banking, and at university (in the USA) was a fan of Ayn Rand. He title will
be "Is politics moving offstage?"

Please do let us know if you are coming.

Best wishes,
Alex

P.S. If you haven't read the ASI Blog recently, you should. It's at

Loic - I've ended up writing a chapter that, in some ways, tries to give the developing world perspective on emerging democracy in the blogosphere... complicated by the fact that I don't live in the developing world. Anyway, it's online at http://h2odev.law.harvard.edu/ezuckerman/sstw.pdf - perhaps it will be helpful.

About

Welcome to my blog. Based in San Francisco, I am an entrepreneur and a blogger. I just started my fifth startup, Seesmic, a community driven video social software. Here is what TechCrunch says about it.

I am blogging every day a video on loic.tv about (almost) everything I do as I start Seesmic, I also constantly post short thoughts to twitter and often my pictures on Flickr.

I also organize every year in Paris the conference LeWeb3 that gathers more than a thousand bloggers and entrepreneurs from 40 countries on Dec 11 and 12.

If you would like to learn more, here is a bio, my LinkedIn profile, my wikipedia pages in english and french. Sometimes they are subject to changes that do not always reflect what I consider the truth but that is the principle.

You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feeds in English, French or my video podcast feed.
